14 illegal driving schools were closed in Burkina Faso

14 illegal driving schools were closed in Burkina Faso by decision of the General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport, reports local publication LeFaso.net. The department intends to put an end to uncontrolled additions to driving schools. The Association of Driving Schools of Burkina (AEB) calls for caution in order not to harm branches of driving schools that comply with established regulations.

As Narsan Zubga, a public relations specialist at AEB, said, the driving school sector has been invaded by businessmen who only think about profit at the expense of road safety. The confusion stems from 2016 technical regulations allowing businesses to open driving schools in the belief that it would boost investment in the industry. However, all this contributes to the development of racketeering and corruption in the field, as well as a decrease in the quality of training of candidates for obtaining a driver’s license.

According to the General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport, the total number of driving schools in Burkina Faso is 105.
